November 9, 2016On the occasion of the official opening of the Dubai Water Canal by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, His Excellency Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of the UAE Cabinet Affairs & The Future and Chairman of Dubai Holding, affirmed the Group’s commitment to implementing the wise vision of the UAE leadership focused on the country’s future economic and cultural development.
Through its pipeline of projects and joint ventures, Dubai Holding plays an integral role in adding new landmarks and growing Dubai’s skyline, reinforcing the City’s position as one of the most advanced and preferred destinations in the world for work and living.
His Excellency expressed that Dubai Holding is proud to contribute to the success of the first phase, with the development of the AED 1 billion “Business Bay Canal” project which stretches over 9km. The Group has also developed “Marasi Business Bay Promenade”, which is set to be a new tourist landmark and one of the main attractions for citizens, residents and visitors alike.
His Excellency explained that Dubai Holding has set itself a clear strategic framework in line with Dubai’s vision for growth, excellence and innovation across all sectors. He also confirmed that the Group maintains a strong project pipeline, and that its businesses remain committed to playing an active role in Dubai’s robust urban planning and economic development.
His Excellency emphasised the significance of the Dubai Water Canal connecting the Dubai Creek to the Arabian Gulf. As one of the most attractive tourist destinations, the Canal’s banks will play host to a wide range of facilities and attractions that promote active and healthy living.
The 50,000m2 park area will include 16 parks with water features, play areas, and interactive furniture, as well as an events space with an amphitheatre, outdoor cinema and weekly markets. This complements the waterfront promenade area while the lush green surroundings encourage an active and healthy lifestyle for families looking for the ultimate leisure destination.
Phase 1 also includes the development of the region’s first-ever water-homes, built on water with pedestrian and boat access, providing unparalleled direct water views.
