Warsan Waste Management Centre

Dubai Holding partnered with an international consortium of four leading companies to develop Warsan Waste Management Centre as the world’s largest Energy-from-Waste (EfW) facility.

In line with the UAE leadership’s vision of bringing the world’s best companies to invest in Dubai and its infrastructure for a sustainable future, Dubai Holding and its four partners of DUBAL Holding, Itoshu, Hitachi Zosen Innova, and Besix Group have officially inaugurated the first phase of Warsan Waste Management Centre. The AED 4 billion investment, executed in strategic partnership with Dubai Municipality, will contribute to Dubai’s strategic objective of reducing and diverting waste from landfills by 2030 as well as converting 45% of Dubai’s municipal waste into a sustainable energy source once completed.

The facility is capable of generating 220 megawatt-hours of renewable energy annually, which can power 135,000 residential units. The plant will help raise the share of clean energy sources in Dubai’s energy mix as it converts daily waste equivalent to that generated by 3 million people into energy and uses recycled water to produce the steam required to power the plant’s electricity-generating turbine.

Warsan Waste Management Centre supports the objectives of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 to derive 75% of Dubai's energy needs from clean sources by 2050 and transform the city into a global clean energy and green economy hub by 2050.
