Dubai Design District (d3) is one of Dubai Holding company - TECOM Group’s, industry-focused business communities, providing a dedicated design destination for regional creatives.
d3 was commissioned in 2013 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, to champion the development of the region’s design sector, providing a dedicated platform for emerging and established creative, artists and designers.
Guided by the objectives set out in Dubai Fashion 2020 – a strategic plan to harness the full growth potential of the design industry – d3 supports Dubai’s goals for a truly diversified innovation-led economy.
d3 provides businesses, entrepreneurs and creatives from across the design value chain with a home from which they can collaborate, create and inspire a constantly evolving creative ecosystem here in Dubai.
Growing the Design Industry
After a successful launch event, ‘Meet d3’, d3 continues to host key design industry events to engage the creative community and promote the growth of the design sector. Highlights include Dubai Design Week, Fashion Forward and Art Week, and the recently published d3 and Deloitte MENA Design Outlook report showcased the significant growth potential of the industry across the region.
To cater to this growth, creators of d3 have designed the community to be the most connected design, fashion and luxury destination in the world. With the additional bonus of being just eight hours flight time from 90% of the world’s population, the district serves as a platform to showcase regional creative talent to a global audience.
11 buildings make up the core of d3, housing a mix of aspiring and international talent representing a multitude of creative disciplines. The expansion of d3 is currently underway, and will see a one million sq. ft. Creative Community, which will act as the site’s cultural epicentre, inspiring emerging designers and artists, and attracting tourists to the area.
By 2019, d3 will also boast a bustling Waterfront, a 1.8km esplanade running alongside the Dubai Creek, with international and design-led hotels, boutique retail concept stores and an outdoor events space, as well as a host of hospitality and leisure facilities, propelling d3 as the beating creative heart of the city.
