Record number of Dubai Holding employees to participate in Dubai Marathon

Record number of Dubai Holding employees to participate in Dubai Marathon

  • 12% increase in number of employees from last year
  • Employees encouraged to run for a cause and support Al Jalila Foundation

Dubai Holding, the global investment holding company, is once again expected to field the largest corporate team for the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon with around 2,000 employees from the Corporate Office, Jumeirah Group, TECOM Investments, Dubai Properties Group and Emirates International Telecommunications registered for this weekend’s races. This will be the eighth year that Dubai Holding supports and sponsors the event as part of its Corporate Wellness Programme.

Employees are not only encouraged to run for their own benefit, but also to support a good cause and raise funds for Al Jalila Foundation, an organisation that aims to uplift the health of the UAE population by supporting medical treatment, education and research.
In line with Dubai Government’s efforts of supporting healthier living habits, Dubai Holding sponsors the UAE National prize category, which it introduced in 2010, offering a total of AED 86,000 to the three fastest UAE nationals in the women's and men's 42km Marathon, 10km Road Races and pushchair categories.

Ahmad Bin Byat, Chief Executive Officer, Dubai Holding said: “Our Corporate Wellness Programme has developed rapidly over the years and yielded very positive results. I am pleased to see that so many of our colleagues have registered for this year’s Dubai Marathon, an event that we have proudly sponsored since 2007. It is also encouraging to see Dubai Holding employees continuously improving their performance and achieving higher rankings.”
This year and for the first time, Dubai Holding is further enhancing the experience for runners of the 10K race with music booths along the route. Internal initiatives to motivate employees were introduced and include fitness mentorship and training programmes as well as regular preparations tips.

Cedric Betis, Chairman of Dubai Holding Wellness Committee, added: "Every year we reach new records in the number of participants from Dubai Holding which is testament to the success of our Wellness Programme. Emirati participation has also increased both inside our organisation and amongst the wider community since the creation of the UAE National Category."

The Wellness Programme has seen positive results as illustrated by a number of success stories amongst Dubai Holding employees. For example, at this year’s Dubai Women’s Run, where Dubai Holding also introduced a UAE National Category, the newly created prize was won by one of the company’s Emirati employees.

Held under the auspices of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon is one of the leading events on the Dubai sports calendar. The world’s richest running race is also the biggest mass participation event in the Middle East, with over 20,000 runners of all standards expected to participate in the event this year.
