Dubai Holding renews support for 'Making it our Business' breast cancer campaign
September 13, 2009DUBAI, 13 September 2009: Dubai Holding announced today it has renewed its support for the 'Making it our Business' breast cancer awareness programme, which is aimed at saving lives by fighting breast cancer and enhancing the concept of corporate social responsibility towards those suffering from the disease.
An initiative of the US-Middle East Partnership for Breast Cancer Awareness and Research, the 'Making It Our Business' programme encourages companies to launch their own breast cancer awareness programmes, indentify high risk individuals and offer free breast cancer screening to employees.
It also encourages participating companies to launch support initiatives with the community in which they operate.
Dubai Holding's participation in the programme will be spearheaded by Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), the world's first healthcare free zone and a member of TECOM Investments. The breast cancer awareness campaign forms part of Dubai Holding's employee wellness initiative, designed to help employees attain optimal health and well-being and to enhance health awareness to prevent illness, injury or disability.
Dr Ayesha Abdullah, Senior Vice President, Dubai Healthcare City, said: "Together, with the US-Middle East Partnership for Breast Cancer Awareness and Research, we can make a huge impact on the lives of women and families not only in our corporate community, but the community at large. We are committed to the urgent mission of eliminating breast cancer as one of the leading causes of death for women in the UAE."
Activities planned by DHCC for this year's programme include awareness workshops for Dubai Holding female employees and families of male employees, as well as female university students. DHCC will also provide free screening for female employees.
In previous years, DHCC has launched a number of breast cancer awareness initiatives, including achieving Guinness World Records recognition for creating the largest breast cancer pink ribbon and sponsoring the Avon Pink and Burjuman Walkathons.
The 'Making It Our Business' initiative was launched in Dubai, in 2007, by former US First Lady Laura Bush and Princess Haya Bint Al Hussain, wife of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Recently, Dubai Holding has completed the first phase of its realignment with the formation of two verticals, Property and Business Parks. The Property vertical integrates the portfolios of Dubai Properties Group with Sama Dubai and Tatweer's real estate development projects including Remraam, The Tiger Woods Dubai, Dubailand and Bawadi.
Similarly, the Business Parks vertical integrates the existing operations of Tecom Investments with Dubai Healthcare City and Dubai Industrial City.
