UAE National Prize Category Winners of the 2020 Dubai Marathon Announced
March 25, 2020Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon has announced the winners of the 2020 Dubai Marathon UAE National Prize, the dedicated category sponsored by Dubai Holding and set up to encourage Emirati participation to spotlight the nation’s sporting accomplishments in the globally renowned event.
Leading the Emirati charge from start to finish, Mubarak Almarashda was the top performing UAE national runner in the 42km category, clocking 02:27:01. Ahmed Aldarmaki and Abdulla Alseedi male runners finished second and third with respective times of 02:29:12 and 02:31:27. Meanwhile, Sara Alulama was named the fastest Emirati female runner for her remarkable 04:08:00 performance. Second and third place were awarded to Batoul Alnaqbi and Fatima Alraeesi respectively for their 04:18:11 and 04:20:52 finish times.
The 10km category was equally impressive, with Obaid Alnuami and Sarah Faraidooni named the top male and female Emirati runners for their 00:30:38 and 00:43:05 respective finishes. This is the third consecutive year that Sarah has taken home the top female prize for the 10km race.
The male 10km runners, Saud Al Zaabi and Mohamed Sulaiman Al Hammadi, finished in second and third place with respective times of 00:31:26 and 0:33:07. The female runner-up was Ruqayya Al Marzooqi with a finish time of 0:48:44. Third place was secured by Alghalia Al Karbi with a finish time of 0:51:26.
In the wheelchair category, Badir Alhosani excelled on the roads of Dubai, achieving an impressive finish time of 01:32:58.
This year, hundreds of Emiratis joined an impressive field of professional athletes and elite runners from around the world to represent the UAE in the major city marathon as part of #MyCity_MyRace, Dubai Holding’s viral National pride campaign. Emiratis and residents gathered in their thousands to cheer the national runners on as they navigated the stunning coastline route and broke records across the board.
Launched in 2011, Dubai Holding introduced the UAE National Prize category as part of its ongoing commitment to community wellness and fostering Emirati pride. It covers the top three male and female UAE National winners in the 10km, 42km and wheelchair races with a total prize fund of AED 86,000 distributed across all three categories.
The Dubai Marathon is the biggest mass-participation sports event in Dubai, with the number of participants reaching more than 30,000 in the 2020 edition. For the past 12 years, Dubai Holding has been one of the founding sponsors of the Marathon as part of a wider wellness programme established in 2007 to improve the wellbeing of its employees and local communities by actively encouraging them to take part in major fitness events.
