DuBiotech Hosts 5th Degradable Plastics Steering Committee for ESMA
22 May, 2010 – Dubai Biotechnology and Research Park (DuBiotech), the major life sciences hub in the Middle East and a member of TECOM Investments, today announced it hosted the meeting of the 5th Degradable Plastics Steering Committee for the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA).
Held at DuBiotech lab building, the meeting was attended by representatives from Emirates Standardization and Metrology Authority, UAE Ministry of Water and Environment, Dubai Municipality and Abu Dhabi Environment Agency, as well as stakeholders from the plastics industry and additives.
The committee discussed the roadmap and implementation plan of the cabinet resolution and the ministerial decree for panning the use of the non-degradable bags and other plastic products and non-compliant products with ESMA standards. The meeting identified the different channels that will be used to enforce the needed regulations as the awareness campaign programme, ways of testing and the labeling of plastics. In addition to the implementation of ECAS (Emirates Conformity Assessment Scheme) on degradable plastics by examining relevant technical and scientific areas, the committee also looked into the enforcement of the UAE technical regulations.
