TECOM Investments to Mark Cluster-wide Participation in Earth Hour 2010
Dubai: 20 March, 2010 – TECOM Investments, a leading developer of knowledge-based business clusters and a member of Dubai Holding, today announced it will participate in Earth Hour 2010 for the second consecutive year.
Earth Hour is a global call to action to individuals and businesses to switch their lights off for one hour, as part of a collective endeavour to raise awareness on global warming and promote a more intelligent use of natural resources. This year, Earth Hour, a World Wildlife Fund (WWF) initiative, is scheduled to take place on 27 March from 8:30pm - 9:30pm.
In 2009, over 4,000 cities in 88 countries officially switched off their lights to pledge their support for the planet, making it the world’s largest global climate change initiative.
The Energy and Environment Park (Enpark) at TECOM Investments will spearhead TECOM’s participation in Earth Hour to ensure that all non-essential lights across TECOM’s 11 business parks are switched off.
Abdullatif AlMulla, Group CEO of TECOM Investments, said:
Dubai is highly conscious about the urgency to take action for combating climate change and fostering a strong sense of awareness among residents and citizens. I firmly believe that all organizations must play an important role in the communities they serve, and even small gestures such as these can go a long way towards highlighting our dedication.
At TECOM Investments, we attempt to implement the principles of energy conservation every day, and we have been able to reap the benefits in terms of direct cost savings that have totaled over AED23 million since April 2007, when we launched our Sustainable Development Policy.
In addition to turning non-essential lights off, TECOM Investments will encourage a cluster-wide participation and invite all companies operating out of its business parks to observe Earth Hour 2010.
Ali Bin Towaih, Executive Director, Enpark, said:
Last year, we witnessed an overwhelming response to Earth Hour. We are confident this year’s edition too will successfully promote awareness among the community. On an individual level, people need to take more responsibility for their own energy consumption. Even small changes in our daily lives will have a big impact on our planet – whose preservation is the responsibility of everyone.
TECOM Investments has not limited its CSR and sustainability initiatives to Earth Hour, and through the ongoing work on the Sustainable Development Policy it has sought to ensure that utilities consumption is minimized throughout the year.
