The City Hospital at Dubai Healthcare City Receives JCI Accreditation

Strong Testament to DHCC’s Commitment to Delivering High Quality Healthcare

21 June, 2010 – Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), a member of TECOM Investments, today announced The City Hospital, one of the region’s leading healthcare providers located at the integrated healthcare free zone, was officially granted the prestigious Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, the leading industry benchmark for measuring the delivery of quality healthcare.

The City Hospital, a strategic part of the EHL Management Services portfolio - a joint venture between the South African private hospital group Medi-Clinic, the Dubai-based Varkey Group and General Electric - has earned the distinction within 18 months of its opening.

Dr. Ayesha Abdullah, Managing Director, Sciences Cluster of TECOM Investments Business Parks, and Executive Director of DHCC, said:

The Centre for Healthcare Planning and Quality (CPQ), the regulatory body of DHCC, mandates all hospitals within the free zone to obtain JCI accreditation within two years of operations. We congratulate The City Hospital for its pursuit of excellence that has been fittingly recognised by the JCI system.

The distinction not only reaffirms City Hospital’s commitment to quality and compliance with the highest standards of healthcare services, it also marks another milestone in our endeavour to be the leading destination for world-class medical care. Safety of patients remains our foremost priority and we believe this accreditation will ensure patients continue to receive the best-in-class healthcare delivery.

The City Hospital began its foundation for the accreditation process prior to its opening in March 2008 when it was inspected by the Centre for Healthcare Planning and Quality (CPQ) whose standards are based on JCI.  A number of committees were formed to review policies and procedures, after receiving training over the past year to prepare for the JCI experience. Three JCI assessors visited the hospital to conduct a thorough inspection in March 2010, following which the accreditation was awarded.

Dr. Pietie Loubser, Chief Clinical Officer, EHL Management Services, said:

Receiving the prestigious JCI accreditation after being operational for only 18 months is indeed a proud achievement for The City Hospital. This accomplishment, together with receiving one of the most prestigious accreditations in the world from the College of American Pathologists in October last year, underlines our commitment to the continuous delivery of quality healthcare to the people of Dubai and the region.

Patients of The City Hospital can feel confident that their care and treatment is set against the highest international best practice and that their safety and wellbeing is our utmost priority.

The City Hospital is a state-of-the-art, fully equipped, multi-disciplinary modern hospital which facilitates world-class healthcare and hospitality. The 210-bed premium facility for specialized health services can accommodate patients with a vast range of healthcare needs. The hospital offers specialized treatment in cardiology, radiology, gynaecology, trauma, endocrinology, ENT, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, ophthalmology, and pathology, as well as advanced diagnosis and treatment, ensuring every patient receives the highest available standard of healthcare from leading medical professionals from around the globe.

Within the past seven years, DHCC has grown into a cluster of over 90 outpatient medical centers and diagnostic laboratories, two hospitals which are now both JCI accredited, and over 100 commercial healthcare and retail services. The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Hospital (AACSH) was also officially granted the JCI accreditation in February 2010 for its commitment to providing quality care to its patients on an ongoing base.

With its solid set of standards and regulations for outpatient healthcare facilities and healthcare practitioners, CPQ has received a number of international accreditations, including the International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQua) for its outpatient standards,  that will further strengthen DHCC’s stand at the forefront of healthcare excellence.
