Dubai Industrial City Plans to Launch More than 3.5 Million Square Feet of Additional Open Storage Yards Following the Success of Phase I
Industrial Township Move to Meet Heavy Market Demand After the Successful Uptake of 2.8 Million Square Feet of Open Storage
Dubai: 4 May, 2009 – Dubai Industrial City, a member of Tatweer Dubai, today announced its plans to launch the second phase of its open storage yards in response to increased market demand for open storage facilities from companies operating in the construction, equipment and transportation sectors.
The move comes as the entire 2.8 million square feet of open storage yards that the leading industrial destination manages is currently utilized by UAE-based companies.
The industrial township is fast tracking Phase II which consists of a second open storage yard measuring more than 3.5 million square feet to meet the heavy market demand.
Rashed Al Ansari, Vice-President of Dubai Industrial City, said:
Five major clients have already leased the first phase, and the high level of interest has encouraged us to dedicate an even bigger second phase for open storage to meet the escalating demand. We plan to have the second phase operational within the next couple of months.
Many of our clients have expressed their desire to use the open storage yards as a cost effective solution for storing their equipment and tools instead of opting for warehouses. Our facilities were designed with such investors in mind and our success is a clear indication of our ability to meet the various operational needs of the business community in Dubai.
Rashed also noted
The open storage yards will further help put an end to the haphazard storing of containers and the parking of trucks and trailers on the sides of highways which is an eye sore and traffic hazard.
Dubai Industrial City’s prime location, adjacent to Dubai World Central’s Al Maktoum International Airport and in close proximity to Jebel Ali Port and Free Zone has contributed significantly to the huge demand for the open storage yards. Corporate investors also prefer the destination for its easy accessibility from major highways such as the Sheikh Zayed Road, Emirates Road and the Dubai Ring Road.
transPARK, the dedicated end-to-end logistics provider that operates under the umbrella of Dubai Industrial City and was set in partnership with Deutsche Post World Net (DPWN) the mother company for DHL, Danzas and Excel, will be responsible for managing the open storage yards through extending optimum storage, inventory and logistics solutions to the clients.
Al Ansari added:
We have been working closely with our clients to identify their niche requirements and ensure the maximum use of our land. With our flexibility and customization options in meeting the storage needs, we aim to bridge the shortfall in storage facilities in Dubai.
The 560 million square feet Dubai Industrial City is a comprehensive one stop-shop industrial and commercial destination featuring 2.8 million square feet of open storage yards, three million square feet of warehouses in addition to 64 showrooms, , training programmes by Dubai Industrial Academy, as well as four office buildings that are fully operational.
