Dubai Internet City Supports ‘Making it Our Business’ Initiative on Breast Cancer
Dubai: 8 November, 2009 – Dubai Internet City, the region’s largest managed ICT cluster and a member of TECOM Investments, today unveiled its agenda for the - ‘Making It Our Business’ training - an initiative to raise awareness on breast cancer and offer employees and business partners tips on preventive and early diagnosis.
Organized in collaboration with the US-Middle East Partnership for Breast Cancer Research and Awareness, the programme seeks to attract female employees to attend a full-day training awareness session that will enable them to inform and educate their colleagues.
Nasseem Rouhani, MPH, CHES, who is the Coordinator/Master Trainer for the MIOB program in Dubai will facilitate the training. Participants will be provided with hands on tools and skills necessary to educate their peers and awarded with certificates of participation.
A dedicated ‘Making it our Business’ training session is scheduled to be held on 9 November at Dubai Internet City’s Building 3 from 9.00am – 4.00pm.
Reem Shaban, Brand Manager, Dubai Internet City, said:
Our objective in organizing the ’Making it our Business’ programme is to raise awareness on breast cancer among the community as we consider this an important element of our Corporate Social Responsibility policy. With so many women across the region being affected, detecting through early symptoms is vital to prevent the disease from reaching a critical stage.
The welfare of our employees is our utmost priority and we look forward to receiving at the workshop as many women from TECOM investments partners to act as ambassadors for the cause.
The ‘Making It Our Business’ initiative was launched in Dubai, in 2007, by former US First Lady Laura Bush and Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussain, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The programme is a joint initiative between Vital Voices Global Partnership and the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Statistics reveal that Arab nationals including those from the UAE are likely to develop breast cancer at least a decade earlier than their counterparts in Western countries. Medical reports also point out breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among females in the UAE.
As part of its vigorous CSR agenda, Dubai Internet City has initiated several programmes for the benefit of the wider community at TECOM Business Parks that further reaffirm its status as a leading knowledge cluster in the region.
