Dubai First Organises ‘Little Steps for Safety’ Workshop at Dubai National School
320 Children Benefit from Basic Course on Road Discipline
Dubai: 30 March, 2009 – Dubai First, the consumer finance company from Dubai Group, a member of Dubai Holding, today announced 320 students in the age group of 6–7 years participated in a ‘Little Steps for Safety’ workshop held at the Dubai National School, Al Barsha, Dubai.
The workshop, presenting basic aspects of road safety, was received enthusiastically by first and second grade students. The workshop featured quizzes, interactive exercises and six animated cartoon characters, each representing road safety issues such as traffic lights and zebra crossings.
Interacting with the students, the Little Steps characters highlighted the need to follow simple safety procedures, such as holding an adult’s hand while crossing the road, or to ‘Stop, Look, Listen’ at every instance.
The ‘Little Steps for Safety’ programme also involves the participation of parents and teachers through drawing their attention to high-risk practices, such as allowing a child to ride in the front seat of a car.
Since its roll out in April 2008, Dubai First has visited nearly 60 schools in Dubai and reached out to over 3,600 children across Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah. In addition to engaging its young target audience in a series of workshops, circulating printed materials on road safety, and releasing key information to parents and drivers with relevant internet links, Dubai First has also launched a children’s level book in English and Arabic.
Over the past year, the programme has enlisted the support of several public and private sector entities, including the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), Road and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai Police, Abu Dhabi Police, Sharjah Police, Emirates Driving Institute, and the UAE Touring Club.
