Gerald Lawless joined Dubai Holding in 2016, having served for 18 years at the helm of the Jumeirah Group, assuming a new leadership position responsible for tourism and hospitality in Dubai Holding. At Dubai Holding, Lawless advises Dubai Holding on strategic tourism and hospitality projects within the Dubai Holding portfolio.
Lawless joined Dubai Holding from Jumeirah Group, where he built the company into one of the world’s best-known luxury hospitality brands and led the drive to establish Burj Al Arab Jumeirah as the world’s most luxurious hotel and a symbol of Dubai as a luxury destination. Lawless spearheaded the expansion of the Company’s portfolio, which now includes 22 hotels in 10 destinations and over 100 restaurants from London to Shanghai.
Before joining Jumeirah Group in 1997, Lawless held a 23-year long career with Forte Hotels.
He is Chairman of the World Travel and Tourism Council; a member of the Global Agenda Council for the Future of Travel and Tourism of the World Economic Forum; a fellow member of the Institute of Hospitality; a member of the International Advisory Board of the Ecole Hôtelière Lausanne; the Chancellor of the Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management and Honourary President of the Jumeirah Group.
Lawless is a Graduate of Shannon College of Hotel Management in Ireland and holds an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Business Administration in Hospitality Management by the Johnson & Wales University, State of Rhode Island in the US, and an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws by the National University of Ireland, Galway.Our Leadership
