Dubai Holding fields largest Corporate Team at Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon 2015

  • 22% increase in number of employees from last year
  • Sponsors event for the 9th consecutive years

Dubai, 26 January 2015 - Dubai Holding, the global investment holding company, once again fielded the largest corporate team for the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon with record participation by 2,430 employees from the Corporate Office, Jumeirah Group, TECOM Investments, Dubai Properties Group, Emirates International Telecommunications, Dubai Group and Dubai International Capital in this weekend’s races. This marked the ninth year that Dubai Holding supported and sponsored the event as part of its Corporate Wellness Programme.

The contingent was led by the Group’s Chief Operating Officer, Fadel Al Ali and saw participation of the leadership team across its companies. Employees are not only encouraged to run for their own benefit, but also to support a good cause and raise funds for Al Jalila Foundation, an organisation that aims to uplift the health of the UAE population by supporting medical treatment, education and research. This year, Dubai Holding raised more than AED 11,000 in aid of Al Jalila Foundation.

The 2015 race was also the fifth year that Dubai Holding sponsored the UAE National prize category, which it introduced in 2010, in line with Dubai Government’s efforts of supporting healthier living habits. Emirati participation has, thus, considerably increased both within the Group and from amongst the wider community. Under this category, Dubai Holding offers a total of AED 86,000 to the three fastest UAE nationals in the women's and men's 42km Marathon, 10km Road Races and pushchair categories.

Held under the auspices of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon is one of the leading events on the Dubai sports calendar. The world’s richest running race is also the biggest mass participation event in the Middle East which saw over 25,000 runners participating in the event this year.

The next big race on the Dubai sports calendar is the Dubai Holding Vertical Marathon, which will take place on 3 April 2015 in partnership with Jumeirah Emirates Towers.
